Learn to Fish Day, May 22, 2004
The Learn to Fish Day at West Dennis Beach was a success in spite of the typical Cape weather. It was a damp and windy day so the crowd wasn't as good as we hoped (especially with the excellent publicity provided by Molly Benjamin in the Cape Cod Times.
We had a good display of live fish in the tank. Swimming in the tank were: Sand Shark, American Eel, flounder, Sea Robin, Striped Bass, Codfish and several others. Approximately 30 kids showed up along with many dads & moms.
Lou Mackiel provided the expert instruction on tackle, techniques, lures and tips on catching a fish. Emphasis was on striped bass and bluefish. Here he is debating the merits of Tony Stetzko, Sr.'s newest fishing lures.
The lunch featured barbecued spare ribs , franks and hamburgers. The guy in the center in the blue slicker is Dave Croft, chef extroardinaire. The distinguished gentleman in the yellow slicker on the right (below) is George Lundguist, founder and prime mover of Learn To Fish Day. Thanks to Lou, Dave, Bill, George and all the other Salties who contributed to the success of the event.
In spite of the weather, everyone had a good time! See more pictures on the Photo Gallery.
